If y’all could see my DMs, you know it’s no exaggeration when I say this post is long overdue. Workout Wednesday: My Favorite Running Shorts has been a long time coming. It’s not that I haven’t talked about where my loyalty lies when it comes to running shorts. But I’ve never dedicated a full post to them. So here we are! I’m currently on my 8th Spring as a ‘runner’ which makes me feel pretty qualified to give my opinion. From the Nike tempo shorts to those cotton-y UA ones to other lululemon picks, I finally found my holy grail pair last summer. Up until that point, the often sold-out OV Relay Shorts were my go-to. I even highlighted those last May. But, and I still do really like those, this favorite pair reigns supreme!

The Shorts…

Without further adieu, I hereby announce the lululemon Track That 5″ Shorts as my first-prize winner! It’s a combination of the mid-rise, the extra length for my thicker thighs & the breathability for me. There is a small side pocket that fits my key fab for when I’m on the trail. Combine all of that with the fact they don’t ride up in between my legs or cause any kind of chaffing and I’m hooked. At the moment I have 5 pairs, 1 print and 4 solids. And at the moment I have 2 more in my cart. Because I’ve learned that when you love something, buy it in MANY colors or you’ll regret it down the road.

The Fit…

When I said I had 5 pairs, I wasn’t joking. Not that you thought I was, but the above picture proves it 🙂 2 of the 5 pairs are a size 4 (light pink & the pattern) and the other 3 are a size 6. Typically I’m 123-125lbs. But thanks to the good ‘ol hormone injections, pills, etc. your girl is hovering right around 128-129 lately. So to be honest, when I ordered my two newest colors this spring (water drop & pink punch) I went up to a 6 to make sure I didn’t feel sausaged into them. And I thought maybe they’d grow with a bump. But enough about me — I’d say if you’re between sizes or don’t like a ‘fitted’ feel, go up. Personally, I like the size 4 best on me. The mid-rise is ideal for me and at 5’5″ I don’t find the length too long either.

The Cons…

So really, I don’t have any complaints about these shorts. Truly they check all the boxes for me. But since not everyone is me, I wanted to give a few cons that maybe could bother you… There is a built-in liner that fits TTS or slightly small. So that is the main reason I suggest sizing up if you’re between sizes. Because you want to make sure the liner is comfortable! Another con for some may be that the only pocket is not large enough for a phone. I use a Koala Clip so a pocket only needs to be as big as my key fab. Lastly, I think some girls may just find these to be a bit too long for their likely. If that’s the case, I 10/10 suggest the Track That 3″ {my 5’8″ sister prefers these} which are literally the same shorts just shorter!

A few runner-ups…

Obviously this is MY blog, but I love you all for reading. So maybe something on the con list is a deal-breaker? OR maybe the $58 price tag is holding you back? Well if it’s the price, I really encourage you to use the free shipping/free returns and try them. Because I think you’ll be sold too. But in any case, I felt like this Workout Wednesday: My Favorite Shorts post owes you 3 runner-up options. So here you go:

  • Outdoor Voices Relay Shorts ($48) – These fit TTS, I wear a small. There is NO liner and they have a 3″ inseam. They’re also a low rise fit. I prefer this style for speed-style runs and HIIT workouts.
  • Free People Way Home Shorts ($30) – If in doubt, go up a size. I wear a small and love the super-high waistband. The inseam is just 2″ so I wouldn’t do any outdoor runs in these personally. Much prefer for leg days!
  • Athleta Run With It Shorts ($59) – I find these run big and have them in an XS. This material is unlike any of the others (softer) and the higher waistband gives off a legging vibe. The fit is flattering with the side slits and they are comfy. Biggest con to these is I find they ride up pretty easily between my legs.
