This ‘Workout’ Wednesday is all about these leggings.
To get a post dedicated to them entirely on a day that I usually dedicate towards how to get your sweat on is a pretty big deal. But girls, this particular pair of leggings deserves the floor ALL to themselves. They’re part miracle worker, part fabulous, part fashion statement. Plus they come in my favorite color that isn’t black: GREY. Not just one shade of grey though…3. All the praise hands for that, please! By now you all know that a majority of my personal workouts are high-intensity and pretty grueling so finding comfortable but practical bottoms is a necessity. I have zero time for ones that I constantly have to adjust and because I’m often surrounded by another 20+ people when at OrangeTheory, see-throughness {probably just made that word up but I like it} is something that must be avoided. These Beyond Yoga beauties pass the three requirements I hold all my fitness apparel to: comfort, function and fit. While I’d love to have cute matching gear for every workout I complete, the truth is that’s just not possible for me. I secretly envy the bloggers and fitness gals I follow that have the latest and greatest from the hottest brands that seemingly coordinate their leggings to their shoes to their sports bras for every trip to the gym. Unfortunately for me, my budget isn’t quite the same and not matching doesn’t phase me. These however aren’t cheap but luckily I recently one a nice Visa gift card so I used a portion of it on them! Below I’m breaking down for you what components are most important to me in workout leggings and why this pair fits the bill.
Function over Fashion.
Not usually a phrase I would use but when it comes to pieces I’m working up a major sweat in, it’s extremely important to me. I don’t care if something is 4 seasons ago or has an odd/ugly pattern if they’re functional. For me that means they have to be at least mid-rise {love a high rise too!}, able to be worn anywhere from OTF to Spin to Barre to hiking with the dogs and they can’t have any crazy washing requirements. No I will not dry clean or hand wash fitness clothes. Ever. Who has time for that!? Having a small pocket hidden in the waistband is also a huge plus but not a deal-breaker. This tri-toned pair have that coveted mid-rise and while they’re technically classified as capris, they come almost to my ankles making them functional for year-round activity for me. Ability to wear them all year makes them totally functional and I’m not complaining that they’re actually fashionable too!
It’s all in the fit.
No I’m not trying to impress anyone while working out but I also don’t want to be parading around in any ill-fitting workout gear. I want bottoms that hold me in, at least somewhat flatter my figure and smooth/flatten my tummy. Fit is the number one factor I consider when purchasing new pieces because the last thing I need to be doing is hiking up bottoms, fixing sleeves or worrying about a wardrobe malfunction while doing squats or sprinting on the treadmill. While I usually stray away from body-hugging clothes during the day, I almost taken an opposite approach to fitness apparel. These leggings fit my body like a glove. I went with my usual size Small and they’ve kept their shape and snugness after already being through the washer a handful of times.
Comfort is key.
You might say comfort is similar to fit but I give it a category all on its own because something could fit me really well but could be itchy, irritate me somewhere, etc. Hence it isn’t comfortable. I like to be comfortable all of the time so it should be no different when I’m at the gym or pounding the pavement. The more comfortable I feel, the better I perform; in all aspects of life really. To say these leggings are comfortable would kind of be an understatement. The inside is lined with an almost silky fabric that is unlike any other pair of pants I own and while they’re thin, they’re not see-through at all. If I could figure out a way to dress them up, I’d honestly wear them to work.
So basically I’ve discovered the most perfect, transitional pair of leggings {or capris if you’re not short like me!}. Now I will say the only downfall I’ve noticed is that, like every other pair of workout bottoms I own in colors other than black & dark navy, you’re bound to show some butt sweat. That’s probably an overshare but it’s the truth! 🙂 ‘Butt’ a little sweat showing isn’t going to stop me from taking these babies out for grueling workouts or paired with a plain tee and cozy sweater for a morning coffee date. Happy Wednesday, babes!
