I’ll just be completely candid and saying I’m finishing up this Workout Wednesday post a day late. Yesterday, no surprise to anyone who follows me {a lot personally} or the general non-biased LOLZ media {a lot for the world}, was A LOT. There are many things out of our control; luckily for each of us though, moving our body is not one of them. Today maybe you need to move. Release some tension, stress or worry. Just because it’s Thursday and Workout Wednesday has passed doesn’t mean we don’t still tackle the day. Ok, now onto the 3 most asked questions from the past few weeks…
How do you deal with family/friends who don’t ‘get’ your workouts, especially during the holidays?
I don’t deal with them, I ignore them. 🙂 In all honesty, working out/running has been a consistent thing for me for years now. My family all but expects me to go for runs or do some sort of workout when I’m around them. I’m sure they roll their eyes sometimes at my early alarms when I’m staying at their houses, but I know that they support me. Even if they think I’m weird or obsessed or whatever. One time or another just about every family member has worked out with me though, so that just further proves the support. As for friends — it’s really the same. Heck, I turned my BFF Jason into a runner! *see below for proof HA* So anything is possible. Quick tip: don’t let anyone, family & friends included, discourage your health journey. Haters will always hate. Let them. And then use that as extra motivation!
Most proud fitness moment(s) from 2020?
Those are easy and I talked about them in last night’s IG post:
- Staying Consistent – #1 for sure. It would’ve been really easy to lose all momentum when our gym closed. I could’ve easily stopped running when in-person races were cancelled. I didn’t. I adapted, found a new ‘normal’ and kept pushing.
- Running 1,204.7 miles – Running helped me process all that 2020 threw at me. Getting outside saved my sanity and often times kept my anxiety at bay. I was able to push paces and distances without a race goal in the forefront of my mind which helped me appreciate each step more. Back in 2017 I talked about re-committing to running with some really specific goals. It’s been immense progress since them. And this year I re-fell in love with running all over again.
- Completing 500+ Peloton workouts – after downloading the app in May-ish because it was ‘3 months free’ I truly dove into what it offered in mid-July. Since then I hit 100 strength classes, 100 stretching classes, 50 runs, 50 cycling classes and many more milestones. The instructors are fabulous and it’s been amazing. (*2 months free is their deal right now!*)
What are your 2021 goals?
Give my body grace + listen to what it needs. Accept that I will have to slow down during my injections and egg retrieval time. Realize that my body might change and that it is ok.
30 minutes of movement, minimum, daily. Seems like so little but with what could be to come, that will be enough.
Learn to do both crow pose & a full handstand. So basically drastically improve my yoga practice… 🙂
Hit 1,000 miles on THE BIKE. Hey, it would be fun to run another 1,000+ miles this year but I’m being realistic and aiming for that number in spinning miles instead.
Workout Wednesday Workout of the Week
LEG FOCUSED
What you’ll *ideally* need – set of heavy dumbbells, set of medium weight dumbbells, small band, kettlebell. To make this easier, lighten up your weight and drop down to 1 less round of each set. Tougher? Up the weights of course! You could also add a .25 mile run between each circuit as well.
