I have a confession: if the temps are under 75*, I am cold. It’s inevitable. Cold-blooded. Always have been. My high school softball coach got it — she & I would wear hoodies until like July. So with the weather all over the place the last few weeks, I thought I’d put together my personal 3 Must Haves to Transition into Fall. These are items I reach for constantly. I’m going to give you my EXACT one as well as a few similar options. We’re all on different budgets, in different climates, have different needs, so I want to make sure I give y’all a bit of variety!
My 3 Must Haves to Transition into Fall are all ‘top’ layers. When it’s cooler in the AM, warmer in the afernoon, and cool again come evening, I feel like the most-needed piece is a medium-weight outer layer. Cuff the sleeves if you’re getting warm. Take your arms out of the sleeves & drape it if you’re neither hot nor cold. Toss it in the backseat of your car if you’re over it. Regardless, I vote everyone has at least the 3 below items in their closets starting now…
Denim Jacket
There’s probably a 90% chance you have one in your closet, and if that’s the case, you’re at least 33.33333% of the way to having my 3 Must Haves to Transition to Fall. Go you! Walk into literally ANY store and you can find an option. Which is great because it means whether your budget is $25 or $250, there is something out there for you. A denim jacket is the year-round staple that literally goes with ANYTHING. Midi dress? Yes. Black jeans? Sure. Layered over a matching sweat set? You bet. My personal closet picks are THIS oversized trucker style, THIS classic staple and THIS super soft/slightly cropped jacket. All of these I own in size XS.
Longline, Neutral Cardigan
I think a lot of shorter gals steer clear of longer-length cardigans. Don’t blame them–I use to fall into that category. But then I embraced them and the obsession continues. Neutral is subjective, but my vote is for a soft cream/light beige if you only purchase one. Wear one of these cardigans over a faux black pant & black turtleneck for a dressier vibe, or throw it over a cropped bra tank & leggings for a post-workout look. My favorite longline, neutral cardigan is THIS cozy option — I have it in olive, but love the beige oatmeal color. I have last year’s version {see below} & it’s fab! A few other great options: this Target pick, this Old Navy find and this splurge cardigan from Revolve.
Sherpa Pullover
Sherpa. The epitome of coziness. If sherpas were appropriate in all settings, I’d probably choose to wear one everywhere. Not the most dressy type of top layer, but hands-down the best one to wear. These are much more of a topper for leggings or jeans for a Target run or to wear around the house, but hey you do you if you want to wear one to a wedding! đ My collection {much to Kyle’s dismay} continues to grow and I am not mad about it. My favorites include: this one (in pink) that’s currently 15% off, this wubby style one and this Free People one that is on MAJOR SALE.
