Coming at you with this week’s routine. Hoping your Wednesday flies by! 🙂
Wednesday – 4.5 mile Run
The heat & humidity have been absolutely brutal here since literally the 2nd week in June. I love hot weather but this humidity is such a killer. These 4.5 miles were slow {for me} at an average pace of 8:35/mile but I told myself before I hit the pavement that morning that if I finished 4+ miles then I could have ice cream after dinner that night. It’s all in how you sell it to yourself 😉 Honestly though, it felt like I was running through mud with a weighted vest on. When I got back home, completely drenched in sweat, I found out that the humidity was a mere 90%. I left the house at 5:50am. So yeah, I need to move probably.
Thursday – OrangeTheory – Strength
Strength is hands-down my least favorite style of workout. The minute the timer starts for class and the instructor says ‘are you all ready for a strength class today’ I was to hop right off the treadmill and go home. Inclines are my least favorite thing to do on the treadmill, especially when we start at smaller inclines and work our way up vs. starting high and coming down. 20ish minutes on the treadmill had us go all the way up to a 10% incline running at an ‘all-out’ pace which for me equaled 9.5mph. Insert heart in throat. Actually this was the first time ever that I got concerned about where my heart rate was at and made myself pull back on speed. After the dread-mill portion was over we moved over to the rowers where we alternated 400m rows with squat-to-upright row with heavy dumbells + jump squats. Finally we made it to the weight floor where again we aimed for heavy weights, lower reps and lots of lower body work. Think dead lifts, sumo squats and pistol squats. At the end of 55 minutes I gained 24 splats points and shed 651 calories.
Friday – 3 mile Jog/Run/Walk
Because Thursday’s workout was so intense, I knew I needed to loosen up on Friday morning instead of taking a full rest day. Beckett & I headed out, once again in ridiculous heat + humidity (78* & 87% at 6am). We started off running which lasted barely 8 minutes and then finished up with a jog/walk combination; jogging the downhill and flat portions of our route and walking the uphill spots. We made it just barely over 3 miles and called it quits. Not sure if I was more exhausted or Beckett was but I’m glad I forced myself outside because the temps and run really did loosen up my sore muscles.
Saturday – Rest Day
Based on the previous 2 days, a full-force rest day was just what I needed. I literally did nothing workout related and I enjoyed it thoroughly.
Sunday – OrangeTheory – Power
After Thursday’s class I didn’t think this one could be any worse. I was wrong. I can easily put this Power-focused class in the top 5 hardest ones I’ve done at OTF to date. I think it was karma for completely taking Saturday off from exercise. Damn it, karma. For 26 minutes straight we did reptitive blocks of 2 minutes at a Push Pace (8.5mph for me) / 1 minute All Out (9.5mph for me…slowly that decreased to 9.0mph!) / 1 minute walking recovery (4.0mph). Doesn’t sound too terrible but I promise you it was a killer. Try re-creating that at home on your treadmill or at the gym–let me know what you think! The next 30 minute of class went back & forth between rowing and moves on the weight floor like bench flies, tricep work with TRX bands, walk-out power push ups and step-up squats. I was not at all shocked to see I burned 663 calories with 22 splat points in the 56 minutes. Worth it but dang did it suck during!
Monday – Walk + Yoga
How good a walk felt this morning! Surprisingly enough the temps were under 70* at sunrise and while it was still warm, it was super bearable. We did our usual 2.5 mile loop and thoroughly enjoyed the fresh air! After the walk I did two shorter Yoga videos from YouTube to really stretch me out and get me focused for the upcoming week. I’ve somewhat neglected my Yoga practice this Summer and really want to get back into the zone and try and get a minimum of 3 sessions in. It makes me feel better, think better and is such an overall mood booster. Plus the added flexibility and stretching is a major plus.
Tuesday – OrangeTheory – Endurance
My favorite. I LOVEEE endurance workouts. Probably because I’m crazy but probably moreso because it means the treadmill incline stays at a cool 1% the entire time. Long blocks were on the agenda for class and we had 15 minutes to do .25 miles + .5 miles + 1 mile, all at a Push Pace, with a 45 second walking recovery in between. I convinced myself I would complete all 3 blocks before time was up and I managed to do so with 7 seconds to spare! Knocking out 1.75 miles in under 13 minutes (subtracting the walking time!) made me pretty happy! The rowing portion of the endurance day sucked: 1600m + 14 front raises + 14 iso-squat flies, 800m + 12 + 12, 400m + 10 + 10. Lets just say 2800m of rowing is way too much for my liking. The floor block made up for the crappy rowing series and focused heavily on abs. Favorite again! We did some work with the TRX bands, lighter weights and planks. Definitely less calories burned, an even 600, than the last few days but I kind of felt like I killed it. My goal has always been to focus more on HOW I feel after a workout instead of what the numbers tell me. Speaking of numbers though, I am loving how OTF now gives you a summary (see mine below for this week, month & year!) of your numbers…
You are totally motivating me to the go to the gym tonight! And that sunrise is gorgeous! Totally worth being up early for.

Kristin, I wish I was able to do half of what you do! This is super motivation. I’d love to see a post on where to find affordable workout wear… It always just seems so pricey to me!

Kristin do you have a specific arm and also ab workout routine? I would love to see that if you did! Also I love the idea of affordable workout apparel! You are always my motivation girl! Cute picture with your dog xoxo
Super great ideas–adding them to my list and my goal is to have a post around affordable workout apparel up next Wednesday! 🙂
I always look forward to your Wednesday posts!! I like to see how you change it up every week!
You are SO motivational!!! I only get to the gym 3-4 times a week and honestly, its my favorite time of those days. It’s about ME!! I would love to hear specific leg and arm workouts. I usually do classes because I like to be told what to do at the gym 😉 but when I do go at a time there isn’t a class I am interested in, I’d love to know what to do!!

Me time is the best, isn’y it!? I’ll start working on some body part-specific routines!! 🙂
WOW – you go girl!! I love seeing what exactly you do for workouts – so keep that coming! And I love workout gear because I just don’t have time to sift through stuff online (hello – no shopping malls nearby except a SUPER SMALL one that has VS). xo Annie
Your workouts and snaps make me feel so ridiculously lazy. But then I am like well “Kristin is working out for the both of us and I support her in spirit.” and I justify my not working out that way. I am soooo proud that you’re so dedicated. Once I get my ish together I am so snapping you my workouts! lol I love how you change everything up. I get bored so easily and the gym isn’t my happy place. I am loving barre, but there isn’t one close to my house so I need to be more motivated and just do it at home with a guided workout.
You’re too nice! I get bored easily too so I feel your pain! Have you checked out barre3.com? Their online videos are great!
You are such an inspiration! Hugs, Kait

I seriously think you’d LOVE OrangeTheory! No where else, besides long training runs, have I ever burned that many calories in less than an hour!
You go girl! Wish I had half the motivation you do. I’m tired pretty much all day everyday!
I always love your workout posts!! The recap is key and it helps me to see what you do!
I think the clothes posts are good, maybe how you refuel or how you stay motivated to do so much would be awesome. You’re so fit so it’s good to read.
Love this! Love you.
