If you’ve followed along with my blogging journey you know that I have so much respect for all entrepreneurs, but especially female entrepreneurs.
Combine that with being local to the Omaha metro area and I’m very likely going to become obsessed with you! Kidding. Kind of. When I discovered Core10 on Facebook about 2 months ago, I knew I needed to give it a try. I reached out to the studio and was instantly connected with Owner & Instructor Wendy Erven. I liked her the moment we exchanged emails and liked her even more when I took my first Essentials class with her. Her energy is infectious, she knows her stuff, and she makes everyone feel comfortable! So this Workout Wednesday is a bit different in than usual in that I’m letting Wendy share more about herself, her adorable studio, and Pilates in general…
Meet Wendy!
Q1: Introduce yourself! Tell us a little about your background & how you got into Pilates
I have 25 years as a career Fitness Professional and have years of experience as a personal trainer, group-x instructor (everything from kickboxing, Body Pump, step, to yoga, Tai Chi and meditation). I got involved in Pilates in 2000–adding another ‘hammer to my toolbox’ of fitness formats. But with Pilates – I LOVED it because I saw real changes in clients – fast! I was the Pilates and Yoga instructor for the Oakland Raiders 2001-2002 (right up until I moved to Omaha)—I’m certain I was the driving force that led the Raiders to the Super Bowl in 2002 – they haven’t been since my departure 😉
My Bachelor of Science is in Fitness Management from Cal State Chico. I have various certifications and training including American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and Balanced Body University. Prior to opening CORE10, I spent the last 8 years managing the Pilates program at Life Time Fitness.
Q2: Describe Core10 & why you decided to open the studio
CORE10 Pilates is a 10-reformer fitness studio with high-energy, music-driven workouts led by knowledgeable trainers. Classes are 55-minutes of heart-pumping, shirt-drenching workouts (all on the reformer). Members get a high-intensity, full-body strength and cardio training workout that burns fat and delivers faster, more effective results than traditional Pilates or strength training alone. I opened CORE10 January 2016 to fill a need in Omaha – result-oriented, vigorous reformer classes that are safe, effective, and affordable for people of all fitness levels and experience levels.
Q3: How does Core10 differ from other studios & why is the workout so effective?
While some may describe CORE10 Pilates as “The CrossFit of Pilates”, CORE10 is not traditional Pilates. Our Full-Body classes are a fusion of Pilates, strength training, interval training to maximize slow twitch fibers to continue burning fat long after the workout is done. We offer over 30 multi-level weekly classes 7 days/week – making a full schedule of times accessible to everyone – as early as 5:30 am and as late as 6:45 pm. We teach varied levels of intensity so people can work at their own pace in the same classes – no matter what level of fitness and experience they have.
Q4: Who is the ideal client & why?
The ideal client for CORE10 classes is anyone who wants to get stronger, leaner and more flexible. Many come with previous injuries, joint issues, and some come with a history of not sticking with a program (but find that they love these workouts and they get results without impact on joints). Runners and cross-fitters find that our workouts are a great balance to their vigorous workout lifestyle and helps to prevent injuries.
Q5: Future plans?
We have plans to open more CORE10 studios in Omaha.
Shaking is the sign of a good workout. – Wendy
Q6: Any advice you can share with a new person?
Advice for anyone starting out at CORE10 Pilates– Take 2-3 Essentials classes before joining a Full-Body class to get the “pieces of the puzzle.” When you join the Full-Body workouts, work at your own pace and intensity level, but push yourself in every series, stick with it to the end even if you’re out of your comfort zone -that’s where real results happen.
For real though, how awesome is Wendy & her studio, CORE10?! Be sure to follow the studio on Facebook here, Instagram here, Twitter here, and of course you can find them on their website at www.core10pilates.com! If you’re in the Omaha area, be sure to check out their Intro Offer that includes 1 week of classes for only $39!!! Two weeks from today I will share my experiences in both the Essentials & Full Body classes, so keep an eye out for that post!!! xox
