Dress for success; that’s what everyone always says, right? Well I think is true in all aspects of our day, including our workouts. When I workout the first thing I think about is function {i.e. good support, modesty, material}, but not too far behind that I’m also thinking about fashion. While you will NOT see me with a face full of make-up or my hair done at the gym–unless I came straight from work, then the hair is somewhat done but the makeup has been removed as much as possible with these–I will also not be in a ratty cut-off from an 8th grade basketball tournament. I believe that if I look good, I am more confident. When I’m more confident, I think it comes out in my workouts and allows me to push my limits.

Because I like to vary what my exercise habits look like, I have to have variety in my fitness apparel. Below are some of my go-to brands and pieces that I love to sweat in:

Sports Bras: I’m quite small in the chest, so even during high-impact workouts I don’t require a ton of support. I love Target’s C9 bras and have this one in every color. For long runs or races, I prefer this one from Lulu because I feel like it wicks moisture a bit better.

Socks: I’m SUPER picky when it comes to what socks I wear. Like so picky. I will only run or do HIIT-type classes in these, these, or these. The tabs are a must for me and though they’re all a bit pricey, my feet sincerely appreciate them.

Shorts: I swear by Lululemon’s Speed Shorts–but only the ones with 4-way stretch. If they ever stop making these, I will probably cry. I’m not usually a fan of shorter shorts but with the built-in underwear I feel much more comfortable and they’re the perfect length for squats & lunges, plus they don’t bunch up all weird. A close second are their Tracker shorts. These are a bit longer and great for longer (especially trail) runs & hills.

Tights: My tights preference strongly depends on the activity. For running/HIIT/weight lifting, Splits59 is hands-down the best. I love these and these. Whether I’m in their full-length or 3/4 style, neither sag or droop oddly. They’re moisture-wicking and have a super comfortable waistband. For yoga and barre, I prefer Zella capris (these) and leggings (these) because they’re a bit thicker, have an awesome waistband, and can easily go to coffee/breakfast right after class.

Tanks: Tops, much like tights, depend on the activity I’m doing as well. I usually like easy, breezy, and something that has great options for color/pattern. For high-intensity workouts, I love this Nike style, this one from Albion, and this from Splits59. For yoga/barre, I pretty much stick with my tried-and-true Racerback tank because of it’s long silhouette and the fact it comes in about 100 different color combos.
