Eating healthy is incredibly important to me. I {try} to eat as natural and unprocessed as possible, but like every normal person I do slip up from time to time. One of my favorite things to do to get me reset after I feel like I’ve fallen off the wagon a little bit is juice. For my birthday, my mom bought me a great juicer that I use all the time. I love being able to throw whatever fresh produce I have in my refrigerator right into the juicer and bam–juice to take with me on the go! Often I crave a good green juice (my usual ingredients being kale, spinach, celery, a green apple, and 1/2 a lemon) but lately I’ve been craving a concoction of carrots, lemon, and ginger. SO GOOD! I always try to have some pre-made, bottled juices on hand for when I don’t have time to make a Whole Foods run or have all of the proper ingredients at home. Suja has become my go-to juice brand. They have an amazing selection of cold-pressed juices and I’ve yet to find a flavor I wasn’t a fan of.
Knowing I would be spending some time on the East Coast, followed by my sister’s Bachelorette Party this past Saturday, I thought it would be the perfect time for a 1-Day Juice Cleanse/Reset. I looked no further than Suja’s Fresh Start Program. Last Tuesday was the ‘Big Day’ so I spent the day prior making sure my meals were lean, clean & green to prep my body. From there, I drank the 6 juices (and a TON of water) throughout the day–every 2.5 hours roughly–and then Wednesday started my morning with a smoothie followed by re-introducing 2 more light meals during the afternoon/evening. My overall goal wasn’t to lose weight, but to feel refreshed, and I definitely achieved that. I did lose just over 3 pounds though, and it’s stayed off, so that’s kind of awesome! 🙂 If you’re someone who is interested in juicing or considering some sort of quick refresher, I would HIGHLY encourage you to check out the Fresh Start options that Suja offers. Below are my quick thoughts on each of the 6 juices that I drank during the cleanse day:
Juice 1 (Glow): 8:30am– The ingredients are very similar to my homemade green juices, so I really enjoyed this one. It filled me up after my morning workout and didn’t have any odd taste to it at all.
Juice 2 (Fuel): 11:00am– This one was my favorite, by far. I loved the carrot flavor and it almost tasted like a treat more than a healthy juice. I drank this much quicker than the first and felt super satisfied.
Juice 3 (Purify): 1:30pm– I think I waited a bit too long between Fuel and this particular one because I was pretty hungry when I drank it. While it wasn’t horrible, it wasn’t nearly as good as the first two. The beet flavor was intense but not as overwhelming as I thought it would be, and it did leave an odd after taste in my mouth for almost an hour.
Juice 4 (Reef): 4:00pm– While not quite as good as the Glow, I thought this one was pretty good. No weird after taste like Purify but also nothing overly special about it. It did fill me up though, as I’m use to a 3:30/4pm Kind Bar or similar.
Juice 5 (Green Supreme): 6:30pm– Knowing I was drinking this for dinner while Kyle and my sister had real food was tougher than I expected. It was thicker than the other juices, and VERY filling, however I didn’t love having 2 green juices in a row. I almost didn’t finish it because of how full it made me, but I managed to close my eyes and make it happen.
Juice 6 (Spark): 7:30pm– Suja encouraged you to finish this juice about 3 hours prior to going to sleep, so I drank it pretty quickly after Green Supreme. I think because I drank them closer together, it made me a little nauseas, and I was totally full. The taste was great though and I would totally buy this individually! The cayenne gave it a little bit of heat but the watermelon sweetened it up, making it a really good combination.
Overall, I would give this a B+. The price-point is a bit steep for a 1-Day Cleanse, but I was never hungry during the day which made drinking only juices and water all day much more bearable. I did power through a fairly intense headache from about 3pm Tuesday until the next morning, but I’m not sure if it was from the juice or a lack of caffeine (yes, I’m a latte addict. #notsorry).
